Early Childhood Development for Children from Ethnic Minorities in Northern Vietnam

Project Title: Early Childhood Development (ECD) of ethnic minorities in isolated mountainous regions of North Vietnam

Problem Setting: There is an urgent need to establish a physical, cognitive, and psycho-social environment that is favourable for early childhood development (0 to 8 years old) within the family, village, community, and district.

General objective: The general objective is to improve hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and access to basic health care for families and at school. Further objectives include improving access to preschool, stimulating recreational activities, and increasing interaction with other children and between parents and community members. Parents will be better prepared to assume their role and will become active participants in the social development of their community. Local Vietnamese authorities will learn participatory processes for day to day management of their action plan towards ethnic minorities.
