Since 1991 the association Enfants Et Développement / Save
the Children France has been conducting an integrated development
programme in the communes of Stung Mean Chey and Dangkaor on the suburbs
of Phnom Penh.
In view of the results obtained and experience acquired, the local
team working on this program decided, with the assistance of Enfants
Et Développement and persons interested in this project, to
form a Cambodian organisation named Sovann Phoum.
Sovann Phoum's vision is to see the poorest khmer people and family
especially women and children acquired necessary knowledge and abilities
to promote their health and improve their family income.
Sovann Phoum is a non governmental organisation that has the mission
to contribute to the improvement of family situation of the poorest
people especially women and children through awareness raising, provision
of opportunities for them to earn income, conduct of educational activities,
provision of support on health, and improvement of living conditions
to the community.
- To train teachers and students in primary schools on health and
basic rights
and to disseminate the information in the wider community
through Child-to-child approazch.
- Extend mobile vaccination to children with ages 0-7 years old
and women of reproductive age in the communities by collaborating
with the public health services
- Provide small loans (micro credit)
- Send the applicant of vocational training to other NGOs or Training
Centers
- Provide education in term of basic enterprise management.
- Provide capital loans to beneficiaries in the targeted areas and
ensure sustainability even after Sovann Phoum phases out of the
target areas.
- Collaborative work in place especially with the organisation that
implement credit programmes.
- Provide consultation to families from the targeted areas
- Advise the beneficiaries to establish relationshipwith or refer
to appropriate institutions.
- Give staff opportunities to develop their skill through attendance
in training,study tours within and outside Cambodia,and share knowledge
and experience to other staff members.
- Institutionalise a system for them to link theory to practice
through regular reflections.
