Krousar Yoeung is a non-profit local association which is not affiliated to any political or religious group and has been registered at the Interior Ministry since August 13 th 2002.
Krousar Yoeung's founders stem from Enfants&Développement which has carried out early childhood development initiatives in Cambodia since 1987.
MISSION
Krousar Yoeung's main mission is to create a favourable environment for global and harmonious development in early childhood.
It does so by:
• Supporting the setting up of early childhood programs adapted to village contexts and realities;
• Increasing the quality of parent/child relationships and reinforcing child-rearing skills;
• Participating in developing human resources specialised in early childhood development and better parenting;
• Acting as a technical and resource advisor to Ministries and non-governmental organisations, international organisations interested in early childhood development and better parenting.
AREAS DEVELOPED
Community Preschools
They are a cheaper and complementary alternative to the current pre-school system. They aim to reach a greater number of children in underprivileged areas. These community preschools provide children with a stimulating environment to help them reach their full potential.
They offer daily activity programs for 3-5 year olds that meet their physical, sensory, intellectual and socio-affective needs. Preventive health measures are also available and supported by local health services. Rice with fish and vegetables is supplied daily thanks to the contributions of parents and Rice Banks set up in the villages.
The Preschools stem from the needs of the community that manages them. They rely on local resources. We train volunteer child care workers chosen from the community with the help of local education authorities. A parent committee has been set up to supervise the proper management of parent contributions.
Manufacturing of Pedagogical Material
Some days are dedicated to manufacturing toys with recycled local materials. This is organised with parents from the village.
Parental Education Activities
These activities aim to increase parental knowledge and understanding of child care, health and development issues. The objective is to help parents recognise their children's needs, meet them accordingly and also support them in their child-rearing role.
These parental education activities have been set up in 19 villages with a network of 215 workers helping close to 2,000 families.
Human Resource Development
Training modules for child care workers, parent committee members and supervisors have been created. Specific training in the fields of early childhood development, child development, level 1/ pre-school transition and gain of autonomy can be organised at the request of non-governmental organizations and international organisations.
Village Participation to Help Community Preschools Reach Financial Autonomy
This project reinforces and relies on the existing human and material resources. In some villages projects are set up to generate income so that community preschools can reach financial autonomy.
