Improvement of Living Conditions and Future Prospects of Cambodian Children in Rural Areas

Project Title:

Improvement of living conditions and future prospects of Cambodian children in rural areas.

Problem setting:

Key issues identified in the areas covered by the project:

  • A level of poverty in many villages with no real job opportunities that is leading to an increase in the migration of young people,
  • A low level of education among parents,
  • Little access to education for children, especially girls,
  • A lack of information on how to prevent ordinary illnesses and private medical care that is costly and not necessarily efficient,
  • A spreading of HIV/AIDS in rural areas,
  • An increase in child trafficking, essentially for the sexual exploitation of teenage girls,
  • Abusive child labour in sectors such as gravel production.

General objective:

The project aims to improve living conditions for underprivileged children and their families living in three different administrative districts of two rural provinces in Cambodia . It supports the poorest families in the villages by integrating training and varied activities in the fields of child protection, education, food security, preventive health and medical care. It also supports micro-economic activity.
