Intergrated Childhood Development, District of Barsalogho (Burkina Faso)

Results and Outlook

Expected results:

•  Education and health actions, implemented by the network of village health units and peer groups, will allow better prevention and improvement of hygienic conditions in the villages as well as a rapid and effective detection of diseases, notably malnutrition.

•  Pregnant women will have better access to pre-natal and post-natal care and to essential information regarding the care needed for the newborn child.

•  The situation of young children will improve due to a growing awareness of parents and other participants caring for the children about satisfactory practices in terms of nutrition, hygiene, and early-learning.

•  Girls will have better access to schooling as well as better conditions. They will therefore benefit from better prospects in the future.

•  The early-learning centres will create the necessary conditions for the children's development, enabling them to enter primary school in good condition.

•  The construction of a school complex, including an early learning centre, will increase the opportunity for education. Supplying teaching equipment in the schools and through the peer groups will help to improve the standard of teaching.

•  The introduction of recreational activities in schools will contribute to the overall development of the child and will make school more attractive to them.

•  School-aged children will grow up in a more satisfactory and healthy environment and will have easier access to drinking water due to new construction of wells and latrines near the schools.

•  The associations for pupils' mothers and pupils' parents will take an active part in the management of schools through remunerative activities which they will lead as well as the advantages of the credit activities that they will run amongst themselves.
