Basic Healthcare in Bokéo (Lao)

Main activities

Improvement of the quality of public healthcare institutions (hospitals and health centers) in the project zone:

• Rehabilitation and equipment of the health structures
• Medical staff training
• Creation of a medicine supply
• Support to the health centers and hospitals activities (department for mother protection and child in priority)
• Improvement of the data collecting system

Supporting the installation and functioning of a basic healthcare network in the villages:

• Reinforcement of the local capacities to organize basic health care: training of the districts health services (training for teachers, training to be able to control, plan and value the activities).
• Application of basic health care in the targeted villages of the three districts concerned.
• Training of volunteers for health care in the villages, and traditional midwives.
• Mobilization of the community collaboration in order to allow the villagers to be responsible of the improvement of their health conditions.

Access to water (a determinant for all other aspects of sanitary development and started in 2001):

•  Construction of wells.

 

 

 

Education for health in primary schools:

• Translation, adaptation, and publication of testimonies and pedagogical files about the "child-to-child" method.
• Production of pedagogical and technical materials to aid the teachers in their lessons.
• Training of the District Mobile Health Teams and the teachers on the "child-to-child" method.
• Supporting activities that the teachers organized to teach the children how to put their acquired learning into practice.
