Enfants & Développement carries out its action of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in Cambodia, in the Kampong Speu province, which is located west of the capital Phnom Penh. There, inhabitants are among the poorest and most deprived of the country.
In provincial villages, public health care services are facing a lack of staff, medications and equipment. But above all, some of the main obstacles to the quality of health services are low qualifications of midwives, poor working conditions, gender inequalities, busy schedules, low wages and the absence of motivation. Consequently, traditions and malpractice as well as the lack of confidence in public health services persist.
E&D has already led a support program against the obstacles the population faces, such as cultural barriers, difficulty of access to medical care and low quality of these health care services, in order to enable them to access sexual and reproductive health services.
